Citect awarded 12,4 million rand Anglo American platinum project

February 2003 News

Citect has been awarded a major control system upgrade contract for Anglo American Platinum Corporation (Anglo Platinum) in Johannesburg. The R12,4 million contract is for the provision of Citect's award winning scada solution during the first phase of Anglo Platinum's precious metals refinery capacity upgrade project.

This recently started fast track project is scheduled for completion by June 2003. This project is part of the first of three phases of the refinery capacity upgrade. Further contracts will be tendered separately until completion of the upgrade in 2004.

Citect's open, scalable architecture and reliable performance, coupled with the company's proven track record and expertise in delivering high performance automation solutions to resource industries, reduces project risk and is critical to the success of the project.

"Citect is pleased to be working with Anglo Platinum on the replacement of its legacy control system and aims to continue lowering the cost of ownership for the control system through strong customer support and service," says Roger Girdler, managing director, Citect Africa.

The successful award of this project clearly demonstrates the opportunities in South Africa for Citect and the advantage to be gained from Citect's proven ability in the mining sector and on large-scale projects.

The award of this project provides further validation of Citect's growth by design strategy that includes focusing on competitive advantages in major markets and select vertical industries. Taking full advantage of its strong track record in the Australian mining sector, Citect acquired Xycom and ISI, its South African distributor and integration partner, to improve its ability to deliver leading automation solutions and aggressively target South Africa's resource industries.

"Together with several projects from De Beers and Kumba Resources, winning this project strengthens our South African operations," says Wayne Morris, CEO and managing director of Citect.
