ASi controller with fieldbus interface

January 2003 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

The new ASi controller family from IFM Electronic is modular in design with a choice of one or two ASi masters, a serial and fieldbus interface integrated into a compact housing. The ASi master features peripheral fault evaluation of the slaves, extended addressing mode for a maximum of 62 slaves and easy connection of analog slaves without having to load a function block. Data, parameter, addressing calls and slave lists are available.

With its 128 kword program memory, the controller is programmable in LD, FBD, IL, ST and SFC. Its Profibus interface supports 12 MBaud speed and the extended diagnosis function is able to detect missing ASi slaves in the host system. Integrated PLC functions enable fast processing of the ASi data without loading the fieldbus. Fast movements can be processed locally and direct access to the peripheral data is made without reference lists.

The integrated full graphic display can indicate controller configuration, slave lists, control/status of digital I/Os, indication of analog values and fault messages. If messages or states are to be visualised, this can be done via Profibus or the serial RS232 interface.

The ASi controller family can be supplied with a fieldbus interface or as a standalone version. Two versions can be supplied with one or two ASi masters, resulting in up to a maximum of 124 ASi slaves being connected to a 2 x 100 m cable, when fully expanded. This corresponds to 248 analog values or 496 digital inputs and 372 outputs.

Program languages are according to IEC 61131-3 and a different language can be selected for every program block. The ASi controller family provides higher plant productivity, shorter and clearer programs, shorter machine cycles and easier maintenance. Typical applications include networked conveyor systems, handling and assembly robots, for use in the food and process industries and in all applications where speed and fewer cables are important.
