Keops Isis becomes Keops Altech
January 2003
News
Towards the end of last year, Keops Isis Industrial Information Systems (Keops Isis), a leading provider of manufacturing execution and control systems to the South African processing industry and a well-established integrator of multilevel industrial information systems, changed its name to Keops Altech.
Founded in 1995, the company was initially a joint venture between Isis Information Systems, a full subsidiary of the multibillion rand JSE Securities Exchange-listed Altech, and the Montreal-based systems integrator, Keops Technologies - part of the world's largest energy utility group, French company Air Liquide.
The managing director of Keops Altech, Pieter Theron, says the company's name change is the result of a strategic decision to align itself with Altech's focus on the convergence of telecommunications, multimedia and information technology (together TMT). Another contributing factor was the apparent confusion in the local market between Keops Isis and Isis Information Systems. Although both are subsidiaries of the Altech group, the expertise and services rendered by the two companies are different and a distinction needed to be made between them. In contrast with Isis Information Systems, Keops Altech focuses on the manufacturing and logistics industries and provides a full complement of services. These include operations consulting, full life-cycle industrial IT projects including process automation and control, manufacturing execution systems, supply chain management, as well as application outsourcing and support.
Says Theron, "The Altech group is known and respected not only in South Africa, but worldwide for its financial stability, vast resources and sound business acumen. Because our new name reflects our affiliation to the group it will enable us to capitalise on Altech's excellent reputation in the market and obtain the mind share for which we are looking.
"In addition, our strong partnership with Air Liquide provides essential process knowledge and ensures ongoing international business success. Our clients can rest assured that when it comes to infrastructure, they will be dealing with an obviously big corporation. But, at the same time, our service will continue to be personalised. That has to be the best of both worlds."
