It is not always practical to use conventional full-line orifice plates to measure very low flow rates. Pro-Flow offers a solution, namely an 'integral orifice assembly', which consists of an orifice plate that is mounted in a cast orifice plate holder. The plate is sealed by means of PTFE jam seals and the whole assembly is connected to the pressure ports of a differential pressure transmitter, either directly or via a manifold, which has three or five valves - depending upon process requirements. The signal port spacing is standard to fit onto most differential pressure transmitters.
These integral orifice assemblies, which Pro-Flow manufactures locally, are available in many popular metals, including 316(L) stainless steel, 304(L) stainless steel and Hastelloy C. The plates can be made to any standard size as recommended by many manufacturers, or they can be bored to yield a given differential at a particular flow rate.
These integral orifice assemblies are usually supplied with the requisite upstream and downstream piping welded to the orifice plate holders, and the piping can be fitted with welded flanges or with the ends prepared for butt-welding. It is possible to supply the assembly without piping if this is desired. The assemblies are available in 1/2", 3/4", 1" and 11/2"sizes and they are suitable for measuring liquid, gas and steam flow rates.
