Fluid steel of more than 1500°C emerges from several continuous casting plants of BMZ (Belarus Metallurgical Plant) in Zhlobin, Gomel region, to be formed and cut into tracks of equal length. Keeping the shape of the product stable is crucial, so consistant cooling of the metal is implemented to rapidly solidify the product and preserve its rectangular cross-section. This is performed by means of a measured flow of water being monitored by Krohne's K300 MIDs, which are more than 18 years old.
While 18 years may be a fine age for a girl, it is an old age for MIDs due to the rapid development of new technologies in measurement systems. Nevertheless, the 'old' Krohne MIDs are still working perfectly without any problem since the early eighties, which clearly proves the outstanding quality of Krohne meters. Krohne's IFM 4080 or Aquaflux are solving new applications at BMZ in the meantime, for example in cold rolling mills.
