Nicolet purchases Optim Electronics

October 2002 News

Nicolet Instrument Technologies has completed the acquisition of Optimum Electronics, Maryland, USA. The Optim product family provides a natural complement to the Nicolet range of data acquisition and analysis products with its targeted focus on mobile, in-vehicle applications. The North American sales and service of the Optim range of products will relocate to Nicolet's ISO 9000 certified headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.

Founded in 1968, Optim provides high performance data acquisition and signal conditioning products including the highly successful MEGADAC product family. Founded in 1967, Nicolet Technologies develops, manufacturers and markets state-of-the-art electronic instrumentation used in a broad range of automotive, power, aerospace and other research applications. "Since their inception, Optim has shown the same commitment to high quality products and services as Nicolet. It is our intent to carry forward that proud tradition as part of the Nicolet family of companies," stated Jon Milbrandt, president of Nicolet Instrument Technologies. "Nicolet's continued objective is worldwide leadership in pre-configured data analysis products. Clearly, the acquisition of Optim helps us continue toward that goal."

Optim joins Nicolet and sister companies Gould Instruments and the former Bakker Electronics BV as part of the Thermo Electron Test and Measurement Group. Thermo Electron, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, reported $2,2 bn in revenues in 2001 and employs approximately 12 000 people worldwide.

Spescom MeasureGraph Test Systems, leading provider of test and measurement products and systems in southern Africa, is the sole distributor of Nicolet and Gould Instruments technologies and products.
