The new Eagle PCI-30FG, like the old PC-30FG, is supplied with free software. This comes in the form of the EDRE Software Developers Kit. EDR Enhanced is a software development kit aimed to provide an easy but powerful solution to data acquisition and control applications. It makes use of the latest technology to easily integrate into the latest visual programming. Supplied as a complete kit with lots of full demo programs and reference manuals, it supports all popular visual programming packages and languages for Windows.
Various features of the software include operating system specific drivers, platform independent hardware abstraction layer, ActiveX Controls (EDREX), examples and third party drivers.
Hardware abstraction layer
The EDRE hardware abstraction layer can run on any 32 bit Windows and connect to a number of different drivers. This feature allows the easy addition of new drivers. A platform independent and common API interface like EDRE makes it possible for an application to run on any platform without recompiling it. It also means that new boards are supported immediately when they are released. EDRE also simplifies the hardware control and no detailed knowledge of the hardware is necessary.
EDR Enhanced ActiveX features
EDREX is an ActiveX package that provides methods and properties to control each subsystem of a particular board. The controls can be configured at run time or through it's property sheets. All control properties are persistent from design-time to run time. It also fully supports Visual Development. Other features include:

* Serial numbers add security to your hardware.
* Modular design enhances device and system performance.
Future support:
* Data streamer - Stream data to memory, disk, SQL database or FTP server.
* Support for Microsoft Internet Information Server and Microsoft Transaction Server.
* Device Driver Development Kit to support additional hardware.
