Proximity sensor range optimised for many applications

IFM Electronic's Efector M range of proximity sensors was designed to provide users with sensors that are appropriate for a task, so that making compromises by using ordinary general-purpose sensors in demanding and specialised applications would no longer be necessary. The new sensors are available in three families, each of which, while optimised for a specific application area, is also suitable for general use. All sensors in the range offer the benefits of extended sensing range and robust one-piece construction.
The first family is optimised to withstand prolonged and severe exposure to coolants, as might be encountered in machine tool and automobile manufacturing applications. The second family is designed for use in hot, wet and aggressive environments, with high levels of shock and vibration. This makes it suitable for industries that include food, pharmaceutical and paper manufacture. The third family is intended for standard automation tasks where high performance and reliability, combined with versatility and ease of use, are essentials.
Currently, the Efector M range includes 48 models, and offers a choice of M12 and M18 bodies. For all models, the dependable sensing range which can be achieved in practical use is typically 2,4 times that of an ordinary sensor with a similar body size. The one-piece construction featured by the sensors offers IP67, IP68 or IP69K protection, and allows them to withstand higher tightening torque.
The new sensors are offered with either two- or three-wire DC outputs. Universal two- or three-wire DC versions are also available, and the outputs for all types are short-circuit protected. Status LEDs are incorporated, as standard, and connections to the sensors are made by means of connectors with gold-plated contacts. Two- and three-wire versions incorporate a set-up LED to aid optimum adjustment.
Models optimised for machine tool applications additionally feature a plastic coolant-resistant active face, or a special ceramic active face, which is resistant to damage from hot metal chips and swarf. These models have an operating temperature of -25 to +75°C.
Efector M sensors for use in the food industry and aggressive environments have type 316 stainless-steel housings, and a food-grade plastic active face. They are compatible with cleaning-in-place (CIP) systems, and have an operating temperature of 0 to 100°C.
