TEL.COM 2002 supports Nepad
July 2002
News
At the Africa Conference of the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Durban recently, WEF President Klaus Schwab urged business leaders to give their full support to Nepad - the New Partnership for Africa's Development. South African President, Thabo Mbeki ,went further. He said the time for platitudes was over. Business people had to made a concrete commitment to Nepad.
Bridging the gaps in Africa's infrastructure - including telecommunications infrastructure - is one of Nepad's Priority Sectors. According to the Nepad founders, infrastructure is one of the major parameters of economic growth, and solutions should be found to permit Africa to rise to the level of developed countries in terms of the accumulation of material capital and human capital.
TEL.COM 2002
Africa's most prestigious and longest established international telecommunications industry exhibition, TEL.COM 2002 is being organised by Reed Exhibitions SA, the same people who own and manage Computer Faire, SA's premier and very successful business-to-business IT exhibition.
TEL.COM 2002 takes place from 23-25 October at the Sandton Convention Centre. That is the venue for the World Summit on Sustainable Development. This means exhibitors and visitors to TEL.COM 2002 will enjoy the benefits of all the improvements currently being put in place for the Summit, including an upgraded road infrastructure around the venue as well as excellent and extensive parking facilities.
Over the years, TEL.COM has become an important platform for operators, broadcasters and suppliers to present their new, innovative and appropriate solutions to the African market. In line with Nepad's injunctions, the focus areas of TEL.COM 2002 have been expanded to encompass the theme: Nation Building through Telecommunications Technology Solutions.
In addition to traditional fixed line telecommunications, the exhibition will feature technologies and solutions involving mobile and wireless communication, satellite communication, broadcasting technology and information technology and networking.
