Intelligent solutions provider for difficult control applications

Optin, a Johannesburg-based company, focused on intelligent and optimal solutions to industry, has since October 2001 been the appointed SA agent for Gensym Corporation's G2 (a world leading control and optimisation package) - as well as Process Perfecter and Process Insights from Pavilion Technologies.

Optin is headed up by its managing director Tony Lange, who together with his engineers represents over 25 years of experience in the deployment of intelligent and optimal control solutions. Their solutions are based on either or both suites of products, where the software increases production, decreases costs and improves quality for a variety of clients in the minerals, metallurgical, food, manufacturing, transport and telecommunications industry.

G2 is a world leading realtime expert system that is used by many industries to perform intelligent alarming, scheduling, control, simulation and rule-based control. There are over 30 000 G2 licences being used, and 40 of the top 50 Fortune 500 companies such as Shell, IBM, and Nestlé use G2 to perform various intelligent automation and decision-making functions.

Process Perfecter is a world-leading nonlinear model-based predictive controller and is based on patented neural network and control technology. The controller has been deployed in a variety of industries, performing optimal control where optimal automatic control was considered extremely difficult if not impossible. This includes the petrochemical, food, cement, power and paper and pulp industries.
