Major mining contract for B&W
June 2002
News
B&W Instrumentation and Electrical has been awarded a major electrical and instrumentation contract at Voorspoed Concentrator as part of Messina Platinum's R180 million concentrator expansion programme.
Some 12 months ago B&W successfully completed the electrical installation for the Voorspoed Concentrator pilot plant, which is located between Potgietersrus and Polokwane. The successful and prompt completion of this contract was instrumental in B&W securing the second project.
The new project, which is valued at over R6 million calls for the provision of high tension sub-stations and the outgoing low voltage circuits to motor control centres. The scope of the work also involves the cabling and cable racking, small power and lighting. Some 75 tons of cable will be installed, as well as the installation, calibration, and commissioning of all instrumentation.
The project is of a fast track nature calling for B&W to complete the work within only 14 weeks to enable the Messina Platinum Mine plant to increase output. B&W will employ some 40 local labourers from the area who will receive onsite training throughout the duration of the project. The engineering managing contractors are Dowding, Reynard and Associates.
