Motor protection for underground machinery

NewElec's 100M series motor protection relays are well suited for fitting into gate-end boxes for protecting underground coal cutting machinery and transformers. The locally designed and manufactured 100M series provide overload protection for both cyclic and sustained conditions as well as unbalanced phase current and phase loss protection. Protection is also provided against short circuits with user-selectable detection thresholds ranging from seven to 12 times motor full load setting.

Available in ampere calibration from five to 360 A, in three current ranges, as well as percent calibration, the relays offer a full thermal memory. LED indication is provided for the adjustment, measurement and fault indication of unbalanced, overload and short circuit conditions.

The user has the facility of selecting motor starting curves from two to 10 s as well as a thermal envelope that exactly accommodates the duty design parameters of the protected motor. This is achieved by selecting thermal lockout periods ranging from 30 s with 120 stop/starts per hour to 10 minutes with six stop/starts per hour.
