Two radar level measurement sensors from Vega are increasingly being applied for use in the food, beverage, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Says Alan Wynn, MD of Vega Instruments SA, "The Vegapuls 41 and 43 are particularly suited to applications with either an hygienic requirement, or where required to withstand aggressive products such as acids and solvents."
These two sensors are also designed for small vessels such as storage tanks and cylindrical tanks and for standpipes or by-pass tubes. With an emitting frequency of 26 GHz, the Vegapuls 40 series have very good signal focussing and measurement is possible right up to the antenna. The narrow emission cone minimises false reflections from mechanical obstructions and vessel walls, resulting in a very reliable measurement.
Vega have been developing radar level measuring instruments since 1991, and the company has recently published a comprehensive handbook on this discipline, entitled 'Radar Level Measurement: The User's Guide'.
Several questions are frequently asked about radar, one of the most common being, "How safe is radar level measurement to people?" When one considers the average transmission output of less than 25 mW is considerably lower than that of a mobile telephone, with the added protection of being fully shielded by metal vessels, then safety can be fully assured.
All Vega radar sensors have general radio approval, so no individual approvals are necessary before operation. Solids, liquids and liquefied gases can all be measured by radar.
Conductivity sensing as a cornerstone of South Africa’s water smart industry ifm - South Africa
Editor's Choice Sensors & Transducers
South Africa’s engineers operate at the intersection of resource constraint and industrial ambition. Few parameters illustrate this balancing act as clearly as water quality. Whether in municipal treatment works, food and beverage plants or mining operations, the ability to measure water quality accurately and continuously has become non-negotiable.
