Students from various walks of life recently had their first introduction to PLC programming when Flexible Electronic Systems hosted its first intake of students. The entry-level PLC course was run last month, and it went very successfully.
It was no simple task getting eight newcomers to understand what a PLC is, and how to programme it in a total of just 16 hours. After studying the logics and functions five nights in a row, the students wrote their own program on the last day, a Saturday, and were surprised at how much they had achieved. While some students were still deciding whether this was the field for them, others were already planning their first applications, while those already in the field went off to work to test out their newly obtained skills. Technikon students exchanged ideas with experienced technicians as they heard tales of midnight breakdowns and PLC 'mission impossibles'. For the students it was an opportunity to acquire knowledge, both during and outside of the course, all in all it has been a good beginning for the new training centre.
