These switches offer the feature of no physical contact in order to switch, as they operate on a magnetic basis, sensing flat mild steel for its operation. This benefit means that there are no arms to break off, or get stuck. Each unit is totally sealed from the environment; therefore no dust can penetrate the switch and contaminate the contacts.
GO switches have been constructed especially for harsh conditions (ie dusty, high temperature and moisture conditions). These switches have been approved for various hazardous areas, including explosion proof (Class 1, Div.1 - Ex'd' Zone 1), nonsparking (Class 1, Div.2 - Ex'n'), intrinsically safe (Ex'i'), as well as general purpose areas. Approvals have been certified by international organisations such as UL, CSA, BASSEEFA, CE, SABS and others.
Typical operating temperatures are 105°C, while high temperature options of 230°C are available. These switches operate with potential-free contacts, so no electrical power is required to cause the unit to switch. Because GO switches are classed as a 'simple device', they do not require expensive zener barriers to operate in hazardous areas. Furthermore, there is no volt-drop across the contacts, which means that these units are suitable for PLC feedback.
The housings are made from either solid brass, or stainless steel, thereby providing a very rugged limit switch. Both rectangular and cylindrical models are available. GO Switches has been a market leader in robust leverless limit switches since 1950.
