Solution at Coca-Cola plant could be implemented worldwide

A solution engineered by a leading manufacturer of world-class flowmeters for the food industry, Danfoss, could soon be applied to Coca-Cola plants worldwide, following its successful implementation by PANAMCO, a Brazilian subsidiary of the soft drink manufacturer.
"PANAMCO was in the process of expanding its plant and was simultaneously looking for an automated, less labour dependent method of controlling the Coca-Cola final syrup pressure in a 4" pipeline connecting mixers to the laboratory," Danfoss Business Unit Manager - Motion Controls and Flow, Mick Baugh, explains. "If pressure in this pipeline was not correctly controlled, it could result in syrup feeding failure due to a possible low pressure condition."
Faced with the challenge of maintaining constant pressure at a 4" pipeline furnishing nine outlets while avoiding hammer shock and simultaneously measuring the primary syrup of each bottling line, the company approached Danfoss for a solution.
Using nine MAGFLO electromagnetic flowmeters in conjunction with a VLT 5022 motor pump and a Sanitary MBS33 pressure transmitter for pressure feedback measure - all brought together with closed loop control to satisfy PANAMCO's requirements concerning pressure control - Danfoss delivered a solution that was efficient, cost effective and reliable.
When feeding one or more lines with syrup, the motor would change pump speed to maintain pressure, according to feedback from the MBS 33 pressure transmitter. Hammer shock was completely eliminated and several lines could now be operated simultaneously with guaranteed syrup supply. A MAG 5000 signal converter was remotely installed to enable easy data collection.
"This solution is so flexible that any OEM in this line of industry should seriously consider implementing it, for more cost-effective, guaranteed uptime operation," Baugh concludes.
