Honeywell has largest SA market share

February 2002 News

The eighth syndicated market research program by Access Market International (AMI) into the Market for Process Control Instrumentation (PCI) in South Africa was finalised in the fourth quarter of 2001.

Based on both desk research and extensive fieldwork, the study shows that Honeywell Southern Africa has moved into first position with regards market share and now ranks as the largest supplier of process control instrumentation in South Africa.

According to the report, the entire South African PCI market was worth R1096,7m in 1997 and this has increased over the three years to bring the market to R1296,8 m by 2000. The expected growth rate for the market is 7,96% between 2000 and 2003. The report indicates that the sectors with the highest growth for the period 2000 to 2003 are expected to be in power generation, chemical and petrochemical, mining and the automotive industry.

"The results of the AMI survey reflects very positively on our sales, marketing, service and support initiatives over the past three years," says Honeywell Sales and Marketing Manager, Roy Botha.

Indications are that 2001 will be one of Honeywell Southern Africa's most successful years to date. It is worth noting that even in a year of economic uncertainty Honeywell won some of its most significant and major contracts ever, including the Sasol Integrated Production System (IPS) project, which is said to be the biggest MES project in the world ever awarded to a single company and the control system for the Butanol project in Sasolburg. The award of this PlantScape project is important since it demonstrates the confidence Sasol places in Honeywell's delivery capabilities, and the long-term relationship with Honeywell as a major supplier.
