LabVIEW 6i has Internet-ready capabilities that increase the productivity of engineers and scientists. With this version, users can deploy control applications to colleagues with the new LabVIEW Player browser plug-in, publish data to the web and share data throughout an enterprise.

In addition to new Internet capabilities, users can take advantage of measurement and control intelligence to build measurement and control applications in fewer steps than in previous LabVIEW versions. The concept of measurement and control intelligence includes automatic measurement and control hardware configuration for faster application development and less user programming for increased productivity.

"LabVIEW 6i is the most comprehensive and easy-to-use development environment yet," said Tim Butterfield, Senior Software Engineer at Lucent Technologies. "We foresee reduced development time of test applications with LabVIEW 6i because it provides many functions that we once had to program ourselves."

Internet-ready software simplifies distribution of data

With LabVIEW 6i and the new LabVIEW Player, engineers and scientists around the world can instantly access VIs from their web browser. Users create VIs then distribute the applications to colleagues through the Internet. Engineers and scientists can use LabVIEW Player (available free of charge from National Instruments at ni.com/labview), to open and run these VIs with LabVIEW capabilities.

Engineers and scientists can also easily share measurement and control information across a manufacturing enterprise and around the world. Users can continuously publish or subscribe to live data with no programming. Users can stream live data from any user interface control to the web or other applications with a single mouse click.

Engineers and scientists can transparently distribute control applications throughout an enterprise. For example, users can direct one remote computer to acquire data, another to analyse the data on a powerful workstation, and publish the results anywhere on a network.

Measurement and control intelligence generates instant results

LabVIEW 6i provides the concept of measurement and control intelligence - the integration of measurement input/output hardware, sensors, and software to automatically recognise and configure available measurement and control components. With measurement and control intelligence, users can build control applications in fewer steps and with less programming to decrease development time. LabVIEW 6i offers a wide variety of measurement and control functions for data acquisition and instrument control, as well as new image acquisition and motion control libraries. Measurement and control intelligence includes many performance enhancements designed to improve systems and user productivity. For example, LabVIEW 6i control algorithms execute 4,7 times faster than in previous versions for single point data acquisition.

Impressive facelift and additional user interface options

Making use of advanced computer graphics technology, LabVIEW 6i delivers easy-to-use, three-dimensional user interface controls for developing professional control applications. The package includes significant new graphing functions, including multi-axis charts and graphs and a new digital I/O graph to represent timing data and digital patterns.
