Modbus I/O now has easily implemented radio telemetry

The MOD-MUX Modbus I/O system from Procon Electronics, which traditionally has used a RS485 or fibre-optic network, can now be expanded onto a radio telemetry network.
A robust radio modem is used to convert the Modbus messages to radio signals. This enables the RS232/485 network to be extended to areas where it is not possible to lay cables. The radio modems form a transparent link between two RS485 networks and can be placed anywhere on the network without the need for complex configuring and setting up.
The comprehensive MOD-MUX product range includes digital inputs and outputs, analog (voltage and current) inputs and outputs and temperature measurement using thermocouples or RTDs. A range of universal displays is available for displaying process variables over the network.
New additions to the MOD-MUX range include a fully isolated eight channel 0/4 to 20 mA input module and a fully isolated eight channel thermocouple module.
The modules communicate over an RS485 network using Modbus protocol. Repeaters, RS232/RS485 converters and fibre-optic modules complement the range to give advanced communication flexibility.
The modules may be connected to a PC using any one of the many scada packages which support Modbus for data acquisition applications or to a PLC with a Modbus master communications port adding remote I/O.
