Waste management support for Afriwater

September 2000 News

The Institute of Waste Management has officially endorsed Afriwater/Afribuild 2001, and will lend its support in the establishment of a Waste Management Pavilion at this high-profile trade event.

"We chose to endorse this event because it is focused on and supported by our target markets, namely local authorities and contractors," said the Secretary General of the Institute, Piet Theron. "We believe this will be an ideal opportunity to promote the aims of the Institute during a nonCongress year."

Afriwater (South Africa's international water, waste and environmental exhibition) will be co-located with Afribuild (the international infrastructure, building and construction exhibition) at Gallagher Estate in Midrand from 15-17 August 2001 under the theme 'Building a Winning Nation'. A significant development at the 2001 event will be the establishment of the Waste Management Pavilion: "Waste management and water quality are intimately related issues, particularly when it comes to the management of landfill sites. This is one of the reasons why the Afriwater show provides the ideal forum for the Institute to raise waste and management issues and present feasible solutions," said TML Reed General Manager Tom McCafferty.

"With the powerful backing of the Department of Public Works and Gauteng's Department of Housing and Land Affairs, Afriwater/Afribuild 2001 is positioned to provide a uniquely effective platform for the promotion of the Institute of Waste Management and its members."

Stand bookings for the event are already brisk, with more than 50% of the available space already reserved.

Companies interested in exhibiting at Afriwater 2001 should contact Craig Newman at TML Reed's (now REC's) Johannesburg offices, telephone: (011) 886 3734; fax: (011) 781 1270; or [email protected]
