Delivering the Internet wirelessly

December 2001 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

AeroComm, a leading innovator of instant wireless solutions, is offering its ConnexModem data communication system. The combination transceiver-modem device enables dial-up networking from remote areas where phone connections are not convenient. Systems-integrators and end-users alike can set up RS232 terminals without wires, making ConnexModem suitable for both stationary and mobile applications.

* Kiosks, ATMs, point-of-sale devices, vending machines.

* Laptop computers, small offices, consumer Internet/e-mail stations.

* Residential Internet gateways, set-top boxes.

* Handheld terminals, industrial datalogging, process control.

The ConnexModem system can be installed in minutes to provide point-to-point communication over distances of up to 500 feet indoors and miles outdoors. Users simply attach a ConnexModem unit to a standard RJ11 phone jack, and then connect a ConnexPC counterpart unit to any device with a standard RS232 serial port. The high-speed RF link maintains a 56K data rate, suitable for applications ranging from simple Internet browsing to realtime data acquisition. Multiple sets can operate simultaneously in the same area. AeroComm's proprietary protocol guarantees secure transmission. ConnexModem uses frequency-hopping spread-spectrum technology, so it resists radio interference even in RF-heavy environments. Use of the licence-free 2,4 GHz band ensures no additional agency certification requirements for wireless connectivity. Two RF power levels are available 10 and 200 mW.

"Everything from industrial data retrieval to poolside web-surfing requires a link to the telephone network," said Jim O'Callaghan, Vice President Sales/Marketing of AeroComm. "ConnexModem creates that link without cables, even around corners and through walls. It is a small, simple, portable solution for cord-free Internet access in temporary settings as well as for fixed integration." The ConnexModem system is backed by a 30-day guarantee and full warranty with technical support.
