Siemens has expanded its Ruggedcom portfolio for industrial communication. For its Ruggedcom RX1400 router, the company now offers a wireless local area network (WLAN) interface which is used as a WLAN IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n access point or client, and comes with a bandwidth of up to 300 Mbit/s.
The Ruggedcom RX1400 is part of the Siemens portfolio for industrial communication in harsh environmental conditions. As an LTE (long term evolution) multiprotocol network node, it connects the Ethernet functions of network components such as switches, routers and firewalls with a variety of WAN connection options. Siemens now offers a new optional wireless LAN interface for this router. The new interface can be used as a wireless IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n access point or as a client and supports 2,4 and 5 GHz with a maximum bandwidth of 300 Mbit/s.
Versatile solution
The router is designed to comply with protection rating IP40, requires no fans for cooling, and is capable of operating at ambient temperatures of between -40 and 85°C. In addition, it is highly resistant to electromagnetic interference and current peaks. The robust metal housing is suitable for DIN rail, panel and rack mounting. The Ruggedcom RX1400 is designed to connect Ethernet and serial devices in any environment through its wired or wireless interfaces. One example is the LTE interface with up to 100 Mbit/s as the ideal backhaul link – connection of a lower-level network node to a central node – for remote locations. In contrast, the wireless LAN interface is particularly suited for local wireless connections, making the Ruggedcom RX1400 router a cost-effective solution for large-scale installations, which can be quickly and easily mounted in existing control cabinets. Its integrated cyber security functions also make it ideal for critical applications that place stringent demands on communication reliability.
