Laser instrumentation developer set to make inroads abroad and locally

December 2001 News

The R&D team at Laser Measurement has been working and experimenting around the clock with the new product due for launch in the US market early next year. This product is targeted on the petrochemical market in the USA. The company believes that the overseas competition will be hard-pressed to compete with this new compact, shorter-range laser instrument.

The company says that this instrument is set to dramatically extend its current product range. Focussing primarily on the 0 to 10 m applications, the product is expected to be popular in the SA market.

Laser Measurement finds that the experience gained in meeting high quality demands of the international market have really paid off, with its business in the local market experiencing noticeably fewer repairs and returns. The company is experiencing an increased ability to function more efficiently.

Laser distance meters for up to 250 m are now rolling of the production line, with more possibilities in the future with developing technology. The short distance units have high-resolution results that meet every expectation. The reliability, endurance and speed of the laser instruments are tested in 'Paris to Dakar' environments by means of a large walk-in testing facility. Training is provided to ensure the correct usage and implementation of the units.

SABS design awards

After receiving the SABS design awards for a number of years, Laser Measurement is now sponsoring one of the awards and has set up an award of R5000 in the prototype category. The award is for high technology innovation and is given for a design that embodies all elements of world-class technology and epitomises 21st century design. This year the award went to Suntracker Dome for its design of the same name.

Deloitte and Touche Fast 50

Laser Measurement has entered the prestigious Deloitte and Touche Fast 50 competition, the primary objective being to identify and recognise the 50 fastest growing technology organisations in South Africa based on percentage growth in turnover over the last three reporting years. The local Deloitte Technology Fast 50 is based on the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Technology Fast 50 in the USA. It is clear that receiving a Fast 50 listing is a quantum achievement and is quickly becoming a competitive benchmark within the global technology community.

Laser Measurement has opted for a racing theme as its marketing approach, which will be 'accelerated' by the production of new brochures and Christmas functions.
