Endress+Hauser acquires specialist American manufacturer
December 2001
News
Instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser has strengthened its presence in the analysis market with the outright acquisition of Wedgewood Technology, a Californian developer and manufacturer of optical sensors, transmitters and process connections. The acquisition also enhances the Endress+Hauser Group's expertise in the fields of biotechnology, paper and pulp, foods, water and wastewater, as well as the pharmaceutical, chemical and petrochemical industry, as the Wedgewood product range targets these industries.
Wedgewood is further involved in the construction of chromatographic, filtering and fermenting systems. "The acquisition is an extension of our capabilities in future core technologies, such as pharmaceuticals and biotechnology in particular, including UV and infrared radiation and colour determination for analysis measurement in process engineering applications," comments Group CEO Klaus Endress.
Wedgewood Technology President, John Daly, sees substantial medium-term growth resulting from the merger. "As we will continue trading as Wedgewood, we maintain our identity and strengths in the local market, while gaining access to Endress+Hauser clients worldwide," he points out. The 21-employee company generated sales of around US$21m in 2000. Endress+Hauser Group sales for the same year amounted to EUR738-million.
