Industrial controller with Industry 4.0 programming

September 2016 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

GHM Messtechnik has introduced GHM One, its latest industrial controller that offers its customers an Industry 4.0 programme platform as well as free configuration application tool (CAT) software.

Managing director of GHM Messtechnik SA, Jan Grobler said, “Industry is currently in the process of a changeover towards Industry 4.0 and the associated necessary changes of production processes. It is the task of control technology to support this trend and provide users with devices and systems to implement the required changes. Our GHM One multi-function platform embraces this new trend via its modern and innovative concept for measuring, controlling, computing, data recording and closed-loop control, and the CAT software is freely supplied to our customers.”

Simplicity of application

The GHM One platform provides process technicians with the possibility of effectively putting their ideas in the area of automation and visualisation into practice without having programming knowledge. The platform is the ideal basis for applications in areas such as industrial furnaces, laboratory ovens, heat treatment plants, micro-breweries, dryers, test stands, building automation, climate control and pasteurisation systems.

The MSR 9696H – the first new generation multi-function device

The first multi-function unit with this platform is the MSR 9696H, which is pre-loaded with innovative hardware and software technologies. It enables users to implement ideas without being deterred by programming languages or battling with limitless depths of visualisation systems.

The MSR 9696H is different to the normal automation devices because it offers far-reaching possibilities such as:

• Implementing measurement, control and closed loop control concepts and ideas without the requirement of programming skills for the user.

• Creating operating and monitoring concepts entirely without knowledge in the area of control systems or scada technology.

• Comprises CAT software.

The controller consists of:

• 3,5” TFT graphic colour touch display.

• Standard ¼ DIN housing (96 x 96 mm).

• Up to 8 analog inputs.

• Up to 4 analog outputs.

• Up to 12 digital inputs and outputs.

• 4 relay outputs as standard.

The hardware concept offers a modular communications card with the possibility of connecting external I/O or other fieldbus participants using fieldbus systems such as Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU and CANOpen. Interfaces are available for the PLC and scada system level and the MSR 9696H offers Profinet, Profibus DP, Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU as possible connections. “With these technological advances now incorporated, the MSR 9696H is Industry 4.0 compliant,” said Grobler.

“GHM Messtechnik is renowned for its forward thinking and investment into research and development in order to keep abreast of evolving technology. Our MSR 9696H enables ideas to be put into practice quickly and simply; offers advanced control technology, profiling and data recording suited to heat treatment shops, curing processes, sterilisers, biological growth processes and tempering systems; individual operating and monitoring concepts as well as making commissioning and testing a quick and easy function,” concluded Grobler.
