The ABB team at African Utility Week (AUW) 2016 shared the message that microgrids are well-suited to the African energy-landscape. The theme of the ABB booth this year was 'Microgrids for Africa, right here, right now!'
The booth at the exhibition made extensive use of video and specialist-facilitated interactive technology. Embracing the possibilities offered by Internet-driven information, product specialists were able to share both the big picture and technical detail of how ABB technology enables microgrids as a viable solution for communities: urban and rural, catering for commercial, industrial, mining and residential power requirements.
For the first time at a major South African event, the booth was digitally driven with no physical products present. The approach was to focus on meeting with industry, face-to-face, building relationships and using a specially designed interactive workstation to share the level of information required by visitors to the booth. The entire ABB world of information was at the fingertips of the team present at AUW.
“Following a people-centric approach for AUW 2016, ABB payed particular attention to understanding the needs of the African energy-landscape’s participants,” said Leon Viljoen, managing director, ABB South Africa. “Working together with the wide range of delegates to the event, we at ABB are confident that bringing electrical power into the lives of an ever-increasing number of people on the continent through microgrid technology is possible right now.”
