As an initiative by the Society for Automation, Instrumentation, Measurement and Control (SAIMC) to benefit local industry with regards to the cost and availability of standards, October 2014 saw the inception of the first SABS technical committee dedicated to control and instrumentation. Under the leadership of SAIMC councillor and Extech Safety Systems director, Gary Friend, SABS TC 165 was established as a mirror to IEC TC 65. In addition to driving TC 165, SAIMC also has a seat on TC 065, a mirror of the IEC TC 031.
