When Mokokobale Diana Makgopa’s Professor of Drama at UCT sent out an urgent appeal for a sponsorship to allow her to complete her studies, little did he expect to hear good news from a company selling pressure and level instruments.
Mokokobale Makgopa.
But VEGA Instruments has a track record for social responsibility and giving deserving young people a chance to succeed in life, and when MD John Groom received Professor Fleishman’s motivation letter it was hard to ignore. The result was a R60 000 sponsorship towards Mokokobale’s student fees, allowing her to complete her studies at UCT.
Mokokobale has completed the first two years of the BA Theatre & Performance Degree – a four-year honours equivalent programme – and is on course to graduate at the end of 2016. She achieved an entrance scholarship from the Humanities Faculty in her first year and through consistent and dedicated hard work achieved the Dean’s Merit List in 2014. Her academic achievements continue to grow and her passion for her studies and chosen field is unwavering, despite the financial difficulties that face her family.
VEGA Instruments’ financial intervention has allowed this promising young student to focus on her studies and not to worry about any further student debt – hopefully one day she will be nominated for an Oscar.
