ifm electronic’s optical fork and angle sensors with robust metal housing resist distortion compared to conventional plastic forks. In comparison to through-beam sensors, their advantage is that the time-consuming alignment of transmitter and receiver is not necessary.
These optical sensors are used in particular for part monitoring in feeder and handling systems. Further application examples are belt edge or double feed monitoring with the exact sensitivity setting via potentiometer. The fine light beam with its constant small diameter is ideal for monitoring shaft imbalance.
The optical fork and angle sensors feature a transmitter and a receiver offering a one-piece fixed-distance design. This positioning provides quick and accurate sensor alignment. Fork housings are available with slot widths ranging from 10 to 120 mm. Angle widths are available in 60 and 100 mm. A visible red light beam across the slot width assists in setup. The sensitivity is easily adjusted via a potentiometer. Light-on/dark-on mode is selectable via a rotary switch for application flexibility and integrated ‘thru’ holes enable quick mounting without the need for brackets.
