The need for emergency stop functions on machinery used in production and general industry is of vital importance. The German-based designer and manufacturer of safety relays and automation systems, Schleicher, has produced a whole range of safety relay devices capable of controlling emergency stops.
The Schleicher safety switching devices comply with the safety category EN 60204, which covers different methods of emergency stops. Stop Category 0 stops the machinery by immediate removal of power to the machine actuators. This is an uncontrolled stop. Category 1 is a controlled stop with power to the machine actuators available to achieve the stop and then the removal of power when the stop is achieved. Category 2 is a controlled stop with power to the machine actuators, which stays available.
All Categories up to 4 are catered for in the Schleicher range. The application fields are emergency stop, monitoring of safety gates, safety mats and safety bumpers.
A pre-selectable reset monitoring can be used for special applications. The choice of a manual or automatic reset depends on the type of monitoring of the safety gate, safety mat or safety bumper that the user needs, and can be done through the terminals S34 or S35. One or two safety limit switches can be connected, depending on the safety level to be reached in the monitoring.
The safety switching device is equipped with an internal electronic fuse that in case of fault protects it from destruction. The status of the switching device is displayed by two or more LEDs. Schleicher safety devices are available from the sole South African distributor, Anglo Allied Engineering.
