Industry players flock to Tanzania in pursuit of oil and gas opportunities

March 2014 News

On 27 and 28 March key figures from East Africa’s booming oil and gas industry will come together for two packed days of presentations and discussions in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

The summit will consist of a two-day conference and exhibition. This year’s event has the most extensive coverage of East Africa with speakers from Uganda, Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Somalia, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Burundi, Eritrea and Rwanda.

Keynote speakers include Theodore Silinge from the Ministry of Energy & Minerals of Tanzania, Ken Mugambi from the National Oil Corporation of Kenya and Velonarivo Pascal Clovis general director of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons in Madagascar.

Madagascar’s recent political developments are expected to be at the centre of discussion. For the past five years it has been paralysed by a deep political crisis, forcing activities in Madagascar’s oil and gas sector to practically grind to a halt. This is set to change as Hery Rajaonarimampianina has recently been sworn in as the new president and there are now renewed expectations of opportunities for discoveries in Madagascar. Many believe that parts of the island’s coast have similar geological formations to the Rvuma basin, which has yielded massive discoveries in Mozambique. There are also considerable onshore prospects that will be discussed.

The East Africa Oil and Gas Summit 2014 will give solutions and servicing companies a chance to meet with local government representatives. It will also give oil and gas companies unprecedented access to key decision and policy makers from the East African region.
