Endress+Hauser opens plant in Brazil

January 2014 News

The Endress+Hauser group has strengthened its position in the South American market. The Swiss specialist for measurement engineering has invested over €8 million in a new production facility for flow, level and pressure measuring instruments in Brazil. The plant in Itatiba, around 100 kilometres north of São Paulo, has now been inaugurated.

Endress+Hauser manufactures more than 2000 products, many of which are available in a variety of design variants. “Regional production in China, India, the US and, most recently, Brazil, allows us to serve our customers anywhere in the world fast and flexibly,” explains Klaus Endress, CEO of the group. “This concept eases logistics, reduces exchange rate risks and lowers business dependencies. At the same time, growth in the international markets also safeguards jobs in our European production centres.”

Endress+Hauser has operated in Brazil for over three decades. Development took off with the establishment of the group’s sales centre in 2003. “Since then, annual sales have grown on average by more than 30%,” says Carlos Behrends, managing director of Endress+Hauser Brazil. “Thanks to local production, we will be able to strengthen our position in the Brazilian market even further.”

Production following the European model

The Itatiba site has been chosen for logistical reasons. The site is 18 000 square metres in total, offering plenty of room for further expansion. Modern infrastructure and production lines were installed on around 4300 square metres of floor space.

More than 20 people assemble, check and calibrate customised measuring instruments in the new plant, for the moment only for customers in Brazil. “This has helped us to reduce delivery and lead times,” says Rogerio Jeronymo, general manager of level and pressure device production. “Also, we gain plenty of experience when it comes to the special needs and requirements of our market – whether from the customers’ side or with respect to national standards and regulations.”

“All our equipment and processes comply with the standards of our parent companies in Europe, right through to ultra-precise calibration systems which are unrivalled in our industry,” adds Gustavo Lemos, general manager of flowmeter production. “We are the only producer of measuring instruments who manufactures in Brazil at this high level of quality. At the same time, we have one of the most diverse product baskets on offer.”
