Honeywell showcases innovations for industrial controls, safety and security

December 2013 News

Honeywell showcased its latest technologies and solutions for industrial manufacturers, including an expanded line of offerings for the oil and gas industries, at its 25th annual Honeywell User Group (HUG) conference in Nice, France.

“Today’s industrial manufacturers face a number of challenges – including an evolving energy landscape, uncertain global markets and changing environmental regulations – that make it critical for them to optimise their efficiency and productivity,” said Darius Adamczyk, president of HPS. “Honeywell has long been the provider of solutions enabling safer work sites, faster startups, increased yields, improved reliability and cyber security. Honeywell User Group events provide an opportunity to interact with our customers to discuss their challenges and for us to continue to optimise our offerings to help them with solutions to address their evolving operational needs.”

At HUG 2013, attendees experienced technologies such as Honeywell’s Experion Collaboration Station, a large interactive display that uses video and telecommunications capabilities to connect global experts. This approach helps personnel analyse events across their operations and resolve situations faster. Other technologies, such as cyber security, alarm and operations management software, and remote operations, were also highlighted in a series of Honeywell and customer-led sessions and round-table discussions. Attendees also heard details of new services designed to help customers ensure production goals are met by maximising their automation investments and system performances.

In addition to technology seminars and discussion areas, delegates were able to tour the demonstration room to see many of Honeywell’s latest and soon-to-be-released, technologies, including:

* Upstream oil and gas automation: The new Experion scada radically simplifies configuration over thousands of assets and provides operational efficiency with an easy-to-operate interface. Honeywell’s new RTU2020 Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) improves the productivity of a site’s distributed assets through more efficient remote monitoring, diagnostic and asset management capabilities. It offers a unique combination of capabilities such as low power consumption, efficient wiring, and built-in HART I/O with Field Device Manager integration. Integration with Experion scada helps visualise what operators need to know to simplify management of pipeline and upstream oil and gas assets.

* Natural gas metering and measurement: Honeywell unveiled three new products for natural gas processors. The Flow Computer ERZ 2000-NG is for custody transfer applications to measure gas flow, correct the measured volume, calculate energy consumption and read out all data via standardised protocols. The Electronic Volume Corrector EC600 is certified for volume conversion at the gas exit point as a stand-alone system or bundled with a gas meter for further flow control. The Gas Chromatograph PGC 9303 offers users the first gas chromatograph to measure natural gas quality plus hydrogen and oxygen in a single device, allowing metering for renewable energy, biogas and power to gas applications.

* Field transmitters: Honeywell’s SmartLine industrial temperature transmitter improves overall plant performance and employee productivity in severe environments with a modular and reliable transmitter. SmartLine transmitters make it easier to support field devices and promote plant reliability with their unique efficiency-enhancing features, such as a graphic display capable of showing process data in graphical formats and communicating messages from the control room.

* Terminal operations: Honeywell Enraf’s Terminal Manager R620 is a web-based solution used for facilitating, monitoring and controlling the distribution of products in a bulk terminal to improve safety and security, meet regulatory requirements, decrease costs, improve inventory management, and streamline ‘tank-to-head-office’ integration.
