Festo introduces compact new controller

October 2013 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

Feso’s compact nw mechatronic controller, CECC, features IO-Link master and CoDeSys V3. It reduces installation times, simplifies programming and also enables fast and cost-effective control of sensors and actuators.

The new controller is the answer to small-scale automation applications with limited I/O. Its variety of interfaces means it can handle different electric and pneumatic automation tasks and it can be easily integrated into higher-level systems such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP and Modbus TCP.

A distinct advantage of CECC is the IO-Link master with four channels. While traditional sensor/actuator interfaces only transmit 0 or 1, the new Festo mini controller features an almost unlimited data interface, which enables diagnostics down to the I/O connection point for easier troubleshooting. The flexible system for transmitting values saves converting the process signal and greatly reduces the complexity of the electronics. Festo offers ready-to-install valve terminals for the IO-Link interface.

Parameterisation of the I/O point can be done centrally during commissioning, which saves having to visit the installation site. The easy-to-operate configuration tool for IO-Link masters in CoDeSys V3 speeds up commissioning of sensors and actuators and the nominal/actual comparisons ensure operational reliability.

The integrated interface of the CECC is another step towards long-term simplification of data handling. It enables recipes and projects to be loaded, diagnostic and quality data to be recorded and it also enables condition monitoring via USB. The integrated CANopen master enables actuation of all electric drives and valve terminals from Festo. The fieldbus master can be used as a further open interface for additional functions.
