Flowjam for detecting bulk solid flows
August 2013
Sensors & Transducers
SWR Engineering’s FlowJam detects bulk solid flows with regard to material movement. The FlowJam distinguishes between material flow, material jam and standstill. It is ideal for monitoring, for example, raw meal cyclones in cement plants, coal injection in steel plants and screw conveyors in gypsum plants.
FlowJam is a non-contact detector utilising microwave technology whereby material movement is detected by means of the Doppler principle. Its use of microwaves guarantees a penetration of any material build-up on the sensor and therefore can detect the material flow behind it. It is also possible to detect through non-metallic box walls, casings or conduits. Even in difficult conditions, such as high process temperatures or pressures, FlowJam can be used by means of a process adaptor.
Meeting IP65 protection requirements, the sensor can operate in a -20 to 80°C temperature range with a maximum 1 bar pressure and 20 bar maximum with the process adaptor.
