Hirschmann's new RSP switches

March 2013 IT in Manufacturing

Thanks to PRP and HSR, Hirschmann says that its new RSP switches guarantee completely uninterrupted data communications. These managed industrial Ethernet switches from the new RSP family support the PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) and HSR (High-availability Seamless Redundancy) protocols. Users are now able to implement networks that permit uninterrupted data communications without any switching time, so ensuring permanent access to your applications. In addition, comprehensive security functions provide all-round protection against attacks on the network.

Designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions, the RSP switches are ideally suited for use in the field-level networks of power substations. But they can also be used in any situation where 100% network availability is required, for instance for mechanical engineering projects or drives for production facilities. Thanks to IEEE 1588v2 compliancy, controllers and sensors can be precisely synchronised.

A further characteristic of the RSP switches is their flexibility. Featuring a total of 11 ports, three of these can be used for SFP transceivers supporting Fast Ethernet (100 BASE-FX) or optionally, Gigabit Ethernet (100/1000 BASE-FX). The remaining eight ports can be used either for 100 BASE-TX or as a combination of four SFP transceivers and four TX ports. Additional features include comprehensive management, diagnostic and filter functions plus a variety of redundancy methods and expanded security mechanisms.
