Magnet, specialists in the supply, implementation and support of electrical equipment and industrial instrumentation, marks 40 years in business this year. “Magnet was established in 1972 in Durban and has expanded its 10-man operation supplying copper wire and heating elements to become a team of almost 100. The company, which now specialises in the supply, implementation and support of electrical equipment and industrial instrumentation, also leads the way in energy efficiency and energy saving project management,” says Brian Howarth, managing director, Magnet. “We have kept ahead in this highly competitive industry because of our commitment to optimum quality, an ongoing assessment of market requirements, expert technical skills and backup, as well as our ability to meet delivery deadlines.”

A recent milestone for the company was the establishment of Magnet Energy. The company’s team of specialist engineers implements energy-saving initiatives which involve pumping and fan solutions, heat pumps and load shifting, as well as refrigeration and processed air optimisation.
Another important achievement for Magnet was the recent launch of a specialist training division. The company is responding to the growing demand for practical training in product selection, energy efficiency, installation rules, repair and maintenance, as well as safety inspections in the commercial, industrial and domestic sectors.
Recent prestigious awards for Magnet include the honour of being a finalist in the trade sector of this year’s FNB KZN Top Business awards and the winner of this award in 2011. The company won the 2010 Energy/Eskom eta award in the industrial category for proven application of sound energy efficiency principles and had a nomination for the Sappi Technology Innovation awards (TIA) in 2010. Magnet also won an award at the second annual Green Supply Chain awards function in 2010 and was nominated the SAEE energy company of the year in 2011. The company received third place in the 2012 IDC Business Partners awards.
Magnet’s technical expertise, coupled with a vast range of quality branded products and a 24 hour support service, will continue to provide the best possible solution in all its market sectors.
