Valve Automation supplies control valves for Sasol EPU 5 project

August 2012 News

The R1,9 billion Sasol ethylene purification unit, under construction at the Sasol Polymers plant in Sasolburg, is expected to go on stream in the second half of 2013 and will be ramped up to full capacity by 2015. The plant will enable Sasol to add value to its monomers feed streams originating from the Secunda complex and will boost ethylene production by approximately 48 000 tons per year. The ethylene will be used in the manufacturing of polyethylene and will greatly benefit the plastics conversion industry in South Africa, which currently imports large quantities of this raw material.

V&A supplied 250 to 400 mm Zwick Tri-Con rotary process valves offering tight shutoff. These triple eccentric valves were fitted with V&A Procontrol spring return actuators. Zwick Tri-Con rotary process valves offer:

* SIL 3.

* Sizes from DN50 to DN1800.

* Temperature ratings from -196 to 815°C.

* Zero leakage bi-directional sealing.

* Self cantering temperature compensating disc.

* Metal to metal seats.

* Inherently fire safe and tested.

* Quarter turn torque seated.

* High cycle bearings.
