The Lapp Group presented a number of new ideas at this year’s Hannover Messe with the emphasis on innovative products geared towards the group’s core markets: machine building and mechanical and plant engineering.
Because China was the official partner country at the 2012 event, the organisation decked out its stand to reflect the year of the dragon. One of the drawcards was a miniature racetrack some 24 metres in length, modelled on the Formula 1 track in Shanghai. Eight Lapp Porsches raced, all controlled exclusively using Unitronic fieldbus technology. The energy for the slots on the track was supplied by Silvyn Chain energy supply system in combination with Ölflex FD 855P continuous flex cable and two fine-wire Unitronic AS-Interface FD cables. A further feature was the handheld control units for the drivers which used solar cells to set the vehicles speed: to accelerate the driver holds the control unit up to the light.
Visitors also discovered that Lapp has expanded its Hitronic product range with a complete realignment in the area of Hitronic fibre-optic cables. In terms of mechanical and plant engineering, the most important new development is the Ölflex Servo FD 796 CP motor cable. This premium cable replaces seven older types of servo motor cables at once and is the ideal solution for state-of-the-art machinery and plant equipment that operate at high speeds or with high levels of acceleration.
New developments in the field of renewable energy were also on display. For example, the organic solar cells for building integration developed jointly with Konarka Technologies. For these cells, Lapp developed the new Epic Solar Map, a junction box allowing organic modules to be fixed effortlessly onto building structures. As a demonstration of the system solutions for new vehicle concepts, there was an electrically powered car using Lapp’s cables.
