Beckhoff extends PC based solutions

May 2012 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

With its PC and Ethernet based control technology, Beckhoff offers an integrated building automation solution with the Beckhoff Bus Terminal system the basis for the acquisition of all data points in the building and building functions and function changes realised in software. This means maximum flexibility with low engineering costs and enables functional expansion and modifications to be carried out during operation.

Beckhoff meets the requirements of energy efficiency class A

Around 40% of the world’s energy is consumed by buildings. In view of increasingly scarce resources there is an urgent need for action on the building automation front. Investors, planners and architects are encouraged to explore savings potentials and reduce consumption as well as costs through energy efficiency. With its holistic building automation concept Beckhoff already meets the requirements for energy efficiency class A stipulated in the European standard EN 15232.

The building automation library provides all key building functions in one software solution. All functions, including those for central heating plants, air conditioning systems, room automation, lighting, ventilation, air-conditioning and facade control are available as function blocks. The energy efficiency classes described in EN 15232 can be implemented with the aid of TwinCAT function blocks.

The compact BC9191 room controller covers all standard room automation functions and enables individual solutions for the wide range of building automation infrastructure concepts in the price-sensitive segment. Via the integrated K-bus interface, the BC9191 can be extended modularly by the Beckhoff Bus Terminals and thus offers the user the greatest possible flexibility.

Open control technology helps cut costs

The integrated control solution from Beckhoff supports all common communication standards in hardware and software. In addition, it has extended its range of power measurement terminals with the new KL6781 M-Bus master terminal. Electricity, water, gas or energy meters with M-Bus interface can be integrated in the fieldbus-independent bus terminal system, making special hardware unnecessary.

The certified BACnet/IP solution from Beckhoff is seamlessly integrated in the TwinCAT environment. The development environment was thus extended with additional functions, making implementation of BACnet/IP applications straightforward. Objects can be generated and configured directly from the PLC. Each Beckhoff PC control system can be used as a BACnet building controller. Particularly suitable are Embedded PC product lines, which directly integrate the modular I/O level.

Multi-core now on the DIN rail

The range of Beckhoff Embedded PCs was extended with two series. The new CX2000 controller generation makes high multi-core processing power available in embedded PCs and the new CX9020 offers a compact PC controller for a wide range of applications. The multi-option interface enables integration in all common fieldbus and industrial Ethernet systems.

The CX9020 is suitable for application as a zone or floor controller and can be adapted to the future requirements of an intelligent electricity market through suitable software components. It offers an integrated solution for the acquisition of energy and process data.
