Intrinsically safe circuits with limited energy are needed in the hazardous areas often associated with the oil and gas industries. For these circuits, Weidmüller has developed new intrinsically safe signal converters with galvanic isolation and to further protect the integrity of the signals EXi surge arresters for signals provide excellent protection for sensitive control electronics. All products have international Exi and local IA certificates.
For surge voltages on measurement and control signal lines in the hazardous area (Zone 0,1 and 2), Weidmüller has a normal pluggable arrestor Vartector SPC EX and a 6 mm terminal protector Vartexctor SSC EX that both conform to the intrinsically safe and IEC standards for surge protection devices. Both have direct contact to earth via the mounting feet.
The ACT20X products are FDT/DTM configurable isolators and signal conditioners designed for the conversion of distinct or universal EXi signals (mA, V, RTD, Thermocouple and NAMUR) from sensors and instruments in the hazardous area (Zone 0) to standard digital or analogue signals in the safe area feeding the DCS system. These units also come in 2 channel versions and some have either transistor or relay alarm outputs if required.
Use the ACT 20 X EXi signal conditioners together with Vartector EX surge protectors for critical signals in the hazardous area of a plant.
