Omron has recently launched the world’s most compact safety laser sensor – the OS32C.
With a height profile of just 104,5 mm, the scanner can be fitted with ease in locations where collision avoidance, intrusion detection or presence detection are required. Free user friendly software simplifies the creation of complex zone combinations, and with 70 sets of safety and warning zones available, even the most advanced automated guided vehicle (AGV) applications can be catered for.
The OS32C is also the first Ethernet-compliant safety laser scanner, enabling both programming and system monitoring to be handled with ease, even in large scale applications using multiple scanners. For times when a computer is not on hand, the scanner also has built in indicator lamps, eight sector indicators, and an LED interface, enabling the status of the system to be easily determined without the need for a PC.
Its lightweight body (1,3 kg), low power consumption (5 W operating/3,75 W standby) and industry-leading 270° detection angle further enhance its credentials as the scanner of choice for AGVs.
Intrusion detection in the vertical plane is also supported, with incorporated reference boundary monitoring in accordance with IEC61496-3. The scanner itself is approved as Category 3, PLd to ISO13849-1, Type 3 to IEC61496-1/-3 and SIL2 per IEC61508.
The scanner is available in 30, 40, 50 and 70 mm resolutions. This makes it an ideal safeguarding solution covering a wider array of area and machine safety applications. These include point-of-entry hand detection applications and other instances where safety light curtains are simply too large to fit or may impair productivity. It is also possible to mount the OS32C closer to the pinch point, where the detection zone is orthogonal to the direction of approach.
Further enhancing safety and productivity, the latest version 1.4.2 of the OS32C configuration tool enables users to copy and paste zones and zone sets to significantly reduce programming time. Version 1.4.2 also offers record system monitoring and playback to help users troubleshoot false nuisance intrusions, as well as configuration checksum functionality to help identify any program tampering after equipment has been commissioned. It provides troubleshooting tips in the fault log and makes additional zone shapes available.
