Low volume flow sensor

November 2011 Sensors & Transducers

The new SQ volumetric flow sensor from ifm electronic is designed for low volume flow measurement. It doses water and aqueous solutions from 1 to 200 ml/min. Designed for the food and machine tool industries, the SQ flow sensor is ideal for use in dosing and sampling applications and has a favourable price compared to other systems on the market.

It can be set up in less than five minutes using the two pushbuttons on the front of the unit next to the four digit LED display. The setting options allow the user to choose switched, analogue or pulsed outputs for simple integration into the control system. A further useful feature is that the second output can be used to indicate the temperature of the medium. This operates according to the calorimetric measuring principle. The temperature range of the medium can be from 0 to 60°C.

Flow and temperature are measured simultaneously and can be displayed either as a switched or analogue output. The measuring pipe is inside the unit and so is well protected from mechanical strain. Connection to the system is via a G 1/8 process connection. Volumetric flow quantities, total quantities or temperature are indicated directly on the unit on a 4-digit alphanumeric LED display. The sensor is connected via an industry standard M12 connector.
