Helukabel brings the North Sea wind to the power socket.
Since the end of 2010, the final of 12 wind turbines in Germany’s first wind farm has been flying high in the middle of the North Sea. Under the project name ‘Alpha Ventus’, fundamental experience is being gathered for the future use of offshore wind energy in Germany. The amount of energy to be produced annually at full capacity is equivalent to the consumption of 50 000 households.
Six of the 12 wind turbine generators were supplied by REpower Systems of Hamburg, which relied on Helukabel quality for the cabling. The WK 103 and WK 135 from the HeluWind WK series were employed for all the (multicore) nacelle cabling, in a loop and as components such as the slip ring. HeluWind was designed specifically for use in wind turbines and is produced at the Helukabel plant in Nuremberg. The wiring range is able to equip all areas – from the nacelle, to cable loop and tower, through to the tower control and medium-voltage level – regardless of the system’s ultimate location.
HeluWind WK 137 Torsion FT4
In developing the HeluWind WK 137 Torsion FT4, Helukabel has a cable in its range that satisfies all the requirements of wind turbine manufacturers in one product: it has passed the tough CSA FT4 flame test, thereby offering the operators of wind turbines a high degree of safety. In doing so, Helukabel continues to consolidate its advantage for innovative products for the wind turbine industry. The cables can be deployed at a temperature range of -40 to 90°C with a torsion of ±150° per metre. The wire is approved by UL/CSA for 1000 V and is suitable in accordance with VDE for a nominal voltage of 1000 V. It is halogen-free, abrasion-resistant, UV and seawater resistant and tested for resistance against the aggressive oils used in wind turbines.
