Honeywell strengthening its position in automation

Honeywell has announced that its industrial automation business, Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS), has been highly successful in diversifying from its core offerings and today commands a leadership position in many of the sectors in which it operates. From its pioneering origins in 1975 with the first DCS (distributed control system), the TDC 2000, HPS has grown into an international player with over 12 000 employees operating in more than 100 countries.
President, Norm Gilsdorf, says that Honeywell is often perceived to be a ‘DCS company’, but that today this represents only about half of overall business. Organic growth and acquisitions have built considerable capabilities in areas such as safety, quality control, operator training, critical infrastructure protection, MES and engineered solutions. The company has also extended into sectors including oil and gas pipelines, terminals, alternate fuels and marine, whilst expanding into emerging geographies such as Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq and Nigeria.
