Enclosures factory achieves international environmental award

ABB in South Africa, part of the international ABB group, has achieved the prestigious international ISO 14001 certification for environmental management at its electrical enclosures factory in Botshabelo. The ISO 14001 certificate was presented to ABB Installations Materials by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) at a ceremony in Botshabelo.
Says Carlos Poñe, CEO of ABB in South Africa, "ABB's policy is to operate along sustainable development lines which encompass sound environmental management systems. We fulfil our commitment to sustainable development by developing and supplying 'ecoefficient' products and systems. We also ensure that our companies look at waste reduction within their manufacturing facilities and implement ISO14001, which supports the process of reduction."
Since the implementation of the programme ABB Installation Materials has substantially reduced waste and continues to improve its processes. ABB, which has five of its eight manufacturing sites certified to ISO 14001, plans to have all its operations ISO 14001 listed by the end of 2001.
