NewElec’s MA Series of electronic motor protection relays is ideal for automating an older plant at a substantially reduced cost. By using existing control voltages that are easily adapted for the MA relay, communication to a PLC is possible via Profibus DP, Modbus RTU or Canbus. The MA is also designed as a standalone motor protection relay.
The MA relay is equipped with five digital inputs accepting field supply voltages from 24 V to 220 V AC or DC. It also has four potential free C/O contacts, two of which are programmable. Three PTC 100 thermistor inputs are standard. At the same time the relay can provide earth leakage protection.
The relay is able to protect against thermal overloads, locked rotor and running stall/jam. The MA also protects against short-circuit faults and automatically takes care of trip coordination so that the main contactor is not used to disrupt high energy faults.
Equipped with integral current transformers up to 250 A, the MA relay is extremely user friendly, and fault diagnostic LEDs mounted on the control panel assist maintenance personnel. The software includes a recording utility that stores the last four faults with time and date stamping.
