Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Smart relays from Schneider Electric

June 2011 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Zelio Logic smart relays, now available locally through Schneider Electric South Africa, are designed for the management of simple automation systems comprising 10 to 40 I/O and provide a real alternative to solutions based on cabled logic or specific cards.

According to product manager, Steve Gerber, the relays offer a unique combination of value for money and ease of use. The relays are simple to select, install and program and enable the control and monitoring of applications from remote locations. Users are able to select from a choice of two ranges: compact versions with fixed configurations and modular versions, which allow the use of extension modules and programming using FBD or Ladder.

The compact units offer an enhanced solution for simple applications comprising 10 to 20 I/O: three models with 10, 12 or 20 I/O are available with or without display and buttons and clock.

For more demanding applications comprising up to 40 I/O, the modular range is available. Communication and I/O extension modules are added on the modular bases for adding the Modbus or Ethernet communication and increasing the number of discrete I/O at very little cost. The smart relays allow users to share information and keep in contact with an installation through network communication extension modules that easily connect automation system equipment such as displays or PLCs. “The Bluetooth wireless connection interface application also allows users to gain freedom of movement up to 10 metres and provides an easy connection even in the most inaccessible places,” says Gerber. “In addition, the modem RTC and GSM communication interface permits customers to monitor and control their installations remotely.”

The Zelio soft 2 software provides an intuitive interface that allows users to create and modify programs using an extensive number of ‘drag-and-drop’ pre-programmed functions that provide the tools necessary to develop and manage most applications.
