CBI and Panel Technique win IBM project
June 2011
News
During a recent co-operative bid to supply motor control centre (MCC) panels to Richards Bay Minerals, CBI-electric: low voltage assisted Panel Technique with the engineering and documentation procedures it needed to achieve the required SANS certification. This certification enabled Panel Technique to secure a R10-million Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) contract to supply panels and distribution boards for a new tails treatment plant scheduled for start-up early in 2011.
In addition to the SANSw certification, RBM specified that its contractor use MCC components from CBI-electric: low voltage. This required close cooperation between the two companies to achieve a final design that included several customised additions to the original enquiry specifications. One of these was the incorporation of a noise-free DeviceNet trunk within the MCCs.
In all, five MCC panels with a total of 115 tiers of Type Two co-ordination equipment in either 525 or 380 V were built, along with 31 distribution boards. CBI-electric: low voltage stocked the equipment, including moulded-case circuit breakers, manual motor starters and contactors, at its Durban facility for just-in-time delivery to Panel Technique as the production schedules required.
