Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Omron offers more for monitoring

May 2011 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

To enhance the scope and versatility of its comprehensive K8AB range of measuring and monitoring relays, Omron has upgraded the functionality. Ideal for use in industrial applications, the K8AB-PH1 relay provides a convenient and dependable way of guarding against accidental phase sequence reversal, which can cause damage to equipment through the reversal of motors, and against phase-loss, which can lead to overheating.

A key feature is the detection of phase loss in motor circuits even when the motor is running. The relay, which can be used with any three-phase supply in the range 200 to 500 V, operates when the voltage on any phase falls below 80% of that on the other phases, or if the phase sequence is incorrect.

The relay has an output contact rated at 6 A, which is suitable for direct connection into motor control circuits. Instant visual confirmation of the relay output status is provided by an LED indicator with a separate LED confirming that the supply to the relay is present.

The newly enhanced K8AB-PH1 phase-sequence phase-loss relay complements the existing K8AB-PA and K8AB-PM relays. The K8AB-PA can be used with both three-wire and four-wire three-phase systems and offers asymmetry detection in addition to phase loss and phase sequence monitoring. The K8AB-PM offers similar functionality with under and over-voltage detection using adjustable alarm levels.

Also available in the range are K8AB-AS single-phase over and under-current relays, K8AB-VS single-phase over and under-voltage relays, K8AB-VW single-phase voltage window comparator relays and the K8AB-PW three-phase voltage window comparator relays.

All units feature a compact 22,5 mm housing suitable for DIN-rail mounting. To ensure easy installation and operation, all types feature a working schematic diagram printed on the side of the relay and a clearly laid out front panel with readily accessible setting facilities.
